Review: Maybelline’s SuperStay Full Coverage Foundation

Was everyone just as excited as me to get your hands on Maybelline’s new SuperStay line?? For whatever reason, I was not too impressed with the Maybelline and Gigi Hadid collaboration, but when the SuperStay Foundation and Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick came out I knew I couldn’t pass them up! Today I am reviewing the SuperStay Full Coverage Foundation, but keep an eye out for the SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick review coming soon.

This foundation is sold in drugstores, online, heck even in the grocery store. I picked up my foundation from my local drugstore and saw at least 10 shades advertised in the store, but on the website it looks like there are actually a total of 16 shades to choose from. The shade selection is okay – not the worst, but not the best either. There is only 4 deeper shades in the selection. I was debating between ‘Natural Ivory’ and ‘Porcelain’, and ultimately decided on ‘Natural Ivory’. As far as I can tell, it was a perfect match to my skin tone.

One of my favorite features on any foundation, high-end or drugstore, is a good pump! I think I have to press the pump down 3 times before any product came out, which is really good considering there are a lot of higher-end foundation pumps that take forever to pump out the product or don’t even pump it out at all!

I have heard some people complain about the oxidization with this foundation, but I didn’t notice any oxidizing.

My overall first impression of this foundation is that it applies smoothly, covers literally everything, and has a satin like texture once on the skin. ‘Natural Ivory’ is definitely a shade match for my skin tone, and ‘Porcelain’ would have been too light on me. Other products were not difficult to apply on top of the foundation. One thing I did notice the most is how light weight this foundation felt on my face, which is sort of odd since it is advertised to be a full coverage foundation. Even with my Dr. Brandt’s PoresNoMore, I found that this foundation did not necessarily emphasize my pores but it didn’t provide a blurring effect either.

I wore this foundation for a total of 12 hours, and wasn’t mad at the final result. Yes, I was (and almost always am) extremely oily at the 12 hour mark. But, what I look for in a foundation that claims to be full coverage, is a foundation that will not separate or become patchy on the skin, and I think that is what this foundation is. It overall held together very nicely and continued to feel lightweight throughout the entire day, even when my oils were doing more than “peaking” through.

I will say though, this foundation began to emphasize my pores, texture, and fine lines as my oil production set in. I blotted only once around noon and did not feel the need to re-blot. The blotting sheets didn’t remove the foundation from my face, and for the most part, it remained intact. Some of the foundation was removed around the tip of my nose from where I had wiped my nose throughout the day, but didn’t see that anywhere else.

Overall, I think this foundation is definitely worth the purchase. I unfortunately don’t come across many foundations that I love and will repurchase, but I think this might just be one of them! I am going to continue to play around with different primers to see what will be the most compatible with this foundation to help the oils stay at bay but keep the foundation lasting all day. If you have any recommendations for me, I’d love to hear them!

As always, thanks for stopping by and until next time,

Sincerely,

Lee.
